Vista Unified is Ready 4 Rena.
- Ready 4 School Safety. I believe that if we protect our children, we protect our future. School safety starts with prevention, and I will do everything I can to make sure that our schools are safe, healthy, and environments conducive to learning.
- Ready 4 Student Success. Student success is not one size fits all. Some students will be successful in pursuing a higher degree. Others will find success by learning a trade skill and earning a certificate. And yet others will find their success wearing a uniform and serving our country. And still, others may succeed by doing some combination (or all 3 ) of these things. Regardless of their path, K-12 education must ensure that all students have access to as many opportunities as possible to have their most excellent future.
- Ready 4 Fiscal Responsibility. Having managed multi-million dollar budgets in my own successful business, I bring the much-needed skill of allocating our tax dollars for maximum efficacy.
- Ready 4 Solutions. The struggle to get my degree and start my business was hard- but worth it. As a result, I learned problem-solving skills that enable me to find unique and effective solutions to a situation.
- Ready 4 Collaboration. Our children and their safety and future success should not be an adversarial process. We should all be in agreement about wanting only the best for our students by working together with teachers, parents, staff, administrators, and the community at large. The future success of our students is paramount. When board members work together with respect for each other and the community they serve, our children's best interest is served. I'm ready to bring much-needed unity to the Board.
- Ready 4 Experience. My 30 years of experience as a Hispanic/General Marketing consultant for Fortune 500 companies gives me the unique perspective to understand the needs of our diverse communities in Vista. I also served as the President of the District Parents Advisory Committee (DPAC) and Cub Scout Den Leader for my son's dens, which gave me the skills and ability to work with the district and parents to find solutions that meet the needs of our students.
- Ready 4 Sustainability. As CFO of the newly formed nonprofit, Sustainable Schools of California, I am passionate about finding ways to make our schools more environmentally friendly while also cutting costs. In addition, there is additional funding from the government and other nonprofit organizations for programs like these. These funds might be able to free up valuable budget dollars for our schools that can go directly towards our students while also protecting the planet so they can have a sustainable future. It's a win-win.
- Ready 4 Respectful Leadership. Board members have a responsibility to come to meetings prepared. This means that they have reviewed the Agenda items to be discussed, reviewed the presentation materials, contacted staff and asked all of their questions BEFORE coming to the meetings. It also means that they have examined the District Bylaws and understand that these meetings are mandated to end by 10:30 PM unless there is an agreement by the majority of the Board to extend that time to a specific ending time. This is so that members of the public don't have to make a choice between tucking their children in at night or having the right to address their elected officials. Because I understand Parliamentary Procedures, I will make sure that meetings are conducted with structure, decorum, and efficiency.
