Vista Teachers favorite choice in this race.
The three things I love most are family, children and learning. Our future lies in our children's hands, but the hope of that future depends upon how well we prepare them for it.
Education did not come easy for me as a youngster. Growing up as the only female child in an immigrant family, I was not encouraged to do well in school, so I didn't. It was only after graduating from high school getting married and having a child that I realized the importance of education and returned to school, with the desire to learn.
I didn't expect to do as well in college as I did, but I excelled, graduating Cumma Sum Laude and being my class valedictorian despite some daunting life changes, including a divorce which forced me to work two jobs while going to school full-time in order to support my son. Being a single mother was hard, but I persevered, and the reward was worth it.
To this day, I still have my curiosity and love of learning. And I would love to impart that to all the students of Vista Unified. I believe that going from being a low achieving student to being a star student has taught me lessons that make me the ideal candidate for school board. Lessons that will enable me to make better policy decisions for our children and schools.
I believe that every child should graduate high school with an ability. That ability might be academic and university bound, or that ability might be a trade or skill that will get them into the workforce sooner. Whichever direction (or even both) our students take, one thing is for sure: with parents, teachers, community and a collaborative school board, we can assure success for each and every student in Vista.
Professionally, my husband and I have owned our own General Market/Diversity Marketing Promotions agency for over 30 years. We have completed national and regional programs for companies like Samsung, Kellogg’s, Nestlé Purina, Coca-Cola, Lipton/Ragú, GM, Census 2010, and many others. This experience has contributed in my strengths, resilience, and success. I am proud to say that I am an independent go getter ready to work and build futures in VUSD.
My ability to reach and communicate with a multitude of people has enabled me to understand the needs of many diverse communities.
My understanding as a parent and business women is key. I understand the needs of my district and my community. I was on my son’s School Site Committee and went on from there to become President of the District Parent Advisory Committee. Twice I was a Cub Scout Den Leader for my children.
I look forward to representing and promoting Vista Unified School District as a whole to community members, teachers, and parents.
Thank you for your support and endorsements. I look forward to bringing positive change, new roads and achievements for students above all.
